Back in Germany it's time to reflect last weeks race. It was a great adventure and a wonderful experience. An incomparable track and an incredible amount of participants made it unique. I absolutely can imagine to participate another time.
The race is quite different from the ones I know so far within Europe. It is more like a timed tourist race than a sports race. Otherwise a number of 35.000 participants could not be reached. The aim of the majority of the participants is to make the distance and not to beat a time limit. So a lot of cyclists were overweight or started with a mountain bike. Pushing the bike is also not a drama and several riders did it. A further difference is that the after race event with reasonable prices for drinks and food together with live music kept a lot of people in the festival area. It was absolutely a great experience and an incomparable event.
